Celebrating the Semiquincentennial! – Fourth of July Cocktail

The United States of Ameria is celebrating the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence! Semiquincentennial is the official term for 250 years. It’s a combination of three Latin terms, semi indicating half, quin meaning five, and centennial translating to 100. When combined, the literal translation is “halfway to 500 years”. While a quarter of a millennium may seem like a long time for mere mortals, the United States is actually a young country. But age is only a number, the important thing is the celebration!

As a food blogger, it’s no surprise that my focus is on the food and drink components of events. Burgers, brauts, dogs, and anything else grilled are all popular choices in the main dish category for this outdoor holiday. I have yet to decide on the sides for this weekend. I covered dessert for the upcoming gatherings earlier this week. That leaves the cocktail for today’s post, and this year’s libation is a colorful one!

A blend of citrus and peach flavors pairs up for a fruity and light sipper in this concoction. The festive blue color of the cocktail is courtesy of blue curaçao, as is the citrus in the flavor profile. Rum is used in this version, but vodka or gin can be used instead. Club soda tops off the spirits to keep it light and refreshing. And don’t forget the cherry on top!
