Endlessly Crushable – Part-Time Lover Cocktail

While in search of a recipe to feature for National Tequila Day (July 24th), I came across a chicken dish that used just a touch of the distilled spirit made from the blue agave plant. We enjoyed that meal (it will be posted here at a later date) but I didn’t feel the tequila played a prominent enough part to use that recipe for the national day. My search continued for a tequila recipe that was not a margarita or a paloma. (We like these two versions of palomas: Ginger & Grapefruit Paloma and Peach & Orange Paloma.)
It took some searching, but I finally found what I was looking for. It is the perfect match of crisp flavor from blanco tequila and the Italian aperitif Aperol with its bittersweet flavor and bright orange color. Elderflower liqueur adds a light and floral flavor that sweetens the drink. The Angostura bitters are optional but they add a complexity to the flavor of the cocktail.
Created by Jon Weimorts at Idle Hour in Los Angeles, it’s an easy drink to fall for with a pretty coral hue and great flavor. lt is as pretty to look at as it is delicious to drink. Perhaps that was the inspiration for the name?
