Burger Time! Feta & Dill Chicken Burgers

We have a favorite turkey burger recipe from my friend, Lisa, that we make all Summer long during grilling season. Most turkey burger recipes we had tried prior to Lisa’s yielded dry, tasteless burgers. It was the same for the ones we tried in restaurants. Lisa’s recipe was the opposite, which is why it became a favored recipe.

Because it is hard to make ground poultry into tasty burgers, it has taken me a long time and quite a few different recipes to come up with a chicken burger that we consider worth making and eating. This one is it! The dill and feta cheese in the mix add loads of flavor. Crushed Ritz crackers are the surprise ingredient enhancing the flavors and holding the burgers together. Chilling the patties before grilling also helps them to stay together while on the grill. We like adding tzatziki sauce as a condiment to the finished burgers, but mustard or ranch dressing are equally as good on these burgers!

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 large shallot, minced
  • 2 tablespoons (about 4) crushed Ritz crackers
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh dill
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup finely crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • hamburger buns, tzatziki sauce, lettuce, and sliced tomato, for serving

Directions:

Combine the egg, shallot, crackers, dill, garlic, salt & pepper together.

Combine the egg, crackers, and seasonings together.

Add the chicken and mix lightly but thoroughly.

Add the chicken to the mixture.

Gently stir in the cheese.

Add the feta to the burger mix.

Shape the mixture into four 1/2-inch thick patties. Chill the patties for 15 – 30 minutes to firm them up. Brush the patties with the oil.

Chilling the burgers firms them up for the grill.

Set the grill to medium high and cook the burgers until an instant-read thermometer registers 165° F, about 5-6 minutes per side.

Grill time!

Serve the burgers on buns. Top with tzatziki sauce, lettuce, and tomato, if desired.

The tastiest chicken burgers I have ever eaten!

The grill is getting a great workout this Summer!  ~Linda
